*By Seth Jacobson Santa Monica*

Well if you watched the emotional and heartwarming speech by Senator Edward Kennedy, you no doubt caught television shots of Santa Monica’s own Councilmember Bobby Shriver, standing next to his sister California First Lady Maria Shriver. His presence felt all over town with the “one” campaign bus and events and events he has hosted to raise awareness for his efforts to reduce the staggering third world debt of Africa’s poorest country’s.

Not far from the crowds Councilmember Kevin McKeown was also working hard to see that the Democratic agenda included a strong balanced agenda on healthcare. Sighted on a street corner leaving a popular Democratic Leadership event, Councilmember McKeown was ecstatic about the strong presence of young people in the Obama nation that is Denver this week.

And then there are those local political figures that dot the breakfasts and lobby’s of the Sheraton Downtown, where the California Delegation is housed. Local Congressman Brad Sherman has been everywhere and was singled out on Monday by House Speaker and California cheerleader Nancy Pelosi.

And even local environmental activists have been working to make sure the Obama agenda fits into the California and (Santa Monica) spirit. Coalition for Clean Air President and Santa Monica local Tim Carmichael has been working the delegates and leaders from California to push for a strong clean air platform.
