A 39-year-old Long Beach man has been charged with multiple felonies in connection with the attempted sexual assault of an 84-year-old Santa Monica woman earlier this month.

Pape Tall was arrested June 5 after Santa Monica police officers responded to reports of a woman screaming for help near the intersection of 6th Street and Wilshire Boulevard at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Police said the elderly victim reported being grabbed from behind by a male suspect who dragged her into a nearby alley and attempted to sexually assault her. Multiple witnesses corroborated the victim's account and observed the suspect fleeing northbound from the scene.

Officers quickly located and detained Tall near 5th Street and California Avenue.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed charges against Tall on June 9, including kidnapping with intent to commit rape, assault with intent to commit rape, and violation of probation.

Tall remains in custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court July 9.

The Santa Monica Police Department is asking anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Detective Maricela Orta at (310) 458-2293, Sergeant Chad Goodwin at (310) 458-8931, or the Watch Commander's desk at (310) 458-8427.
