Los Angeles man arrested at Santa Monica DUI checkpoint

The Santa Monica Police Department's traffic unit conducted a DUI and driver's license checkpoint in the 2200 block of Pico Boulevard on July 1.

At about 10:45 p.m., a vehicle was directed to the screening area by officers. The driver was investigated for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

The driver was unable to complete the field sobriety testing and was driving on a suspended driver's license. The driver was placed under arrest.

Bradley Edgardo Melendez, 23, from Los Angeles was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

Bail was set at $1,000.
