The YWCA Santa Monica/Westside will spread some holiday cheer this season by collecting toys, gift certificates and other items for children of eligible families in the “Connections for Children” subsidized child care program.

The gift collection and distribution serves families in the western region of Los Angeles County, including all the beach communities from Malibu to Redondo Beach, Culver City and the West LA neighborhoods of Palms, Mar Vista, and Venice.

For 75 years, the YWCA Santa Monica/Westside has provided community service programs to women and children in more than 10 westside communities. Supporting its mission to empower women and to work to eliminate racism, the YWCA offers a “Housing and Education” program for young women emancipated from foster care. The “GED/LIFE” program combines evening high school diploma classes with a child literacy program. “ENCORE” is an exercise and support program for breast cancer survivors. Their newest program, “Girls in Action,” is a leadership program for girls attending John Adams Middle School.

For the “Connections for Children” program, the YWCA is accepting new, unwrapped or wrapped gifts for boys and girls from birth to teenagers. If the gift is wrapped, attach a label noting the appropriate age range and gender for the gift. Deliver donations to the YWCA, 2019 14th St., from Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m., on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., or Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. All donations must be received by Thursday, Dec. 11.
