The City of Malibu Arts Commission is inviting artists of all backgrounds and disciplines to apply for a public art project that will transform four storm drain catch basins at highly visible locations throughout the city.

The selected artist will design and create original artwork connecting the visual relationship between streets, stormwater, and the ocean, while raising awareness of the role storm drains play in protecting Malibu's beaches and wildlife habitats.

"Public art has the power to beautify our community, spark creativity, foster community engagement, and inspire us to protect Malibu's coastline," Mayor Bruce Silverstein said.

Proposals must reflect Malibu's coastal identity, spark public conversation, and encourage environmental stewardship. The deadline to submit is 12 p.m. on Friday, April 17.

The Malibu Arts Commission will review submissions and present a recommendation for the selected artist at a future public meeting. Past storm drain art projects can be viewed at MalibuArtsCommission.org/StormDrain. To apply, visit MalibuCity.org/Bids.
