Man arrested after shooting on the Santa Monica Pier

A Rialto man was arrested Sunday night after a shooting on the Santa Monica Pier left two people injured following a large fight involving multiple individuals, police said.

Jaysawn Williams, 18, was taken into custody after receiving medical treatment and booked into the Santa Monica Jail on charges of assault with a firearm and grossly negligent discharge of a firearm, the Santa Monica Police Department said.

The incident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. Sunday when officers responded to reports of gunfire on the pier. One victim sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and was taken to a local hospital. A second individual suffered a graze wound and also sought medical treatment — detectives later determined that second person was the suspected shooter.

Officers provided initial medical aid at the scene before paramedics arrived. The department maintains a regular patrol presence on the pier, which allowed officers to respond rapidly, police said.

The pier has since reopened and normal operations have resumed.
