INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Police have arrested a man in connection with the death of a woman struck by a pickup truck just after she placed a child into a car.
Inglewood police say Jesus Cazares, 38, turned himself in Sunday following widespread news coverage of the fatal collision.
Cazares was booked for investigation of a hit and run and is being held on $50,000 bail.
Police say 47-year-old Elisa Alvarez, of SantaMonica, was loading a child into a parked car Saturday night after attending a family birthday party when she was hit by a passing pickup truck. The truck fled the area.
Alvarez was thrown about 30 feet by the impact. She was taken to a hospital where she died.
No one else was injured.
