An elderly driver made his way onto the pedestrian beach path this week and drove for several blocks before being stopped by Santa Monica Police officers. According to SMPD, the man, in his mid 80’s, entered the beach path in Venice and turned north.

“We received radio calls about this and responded, catching up to the driver by lot 4 south,” said Lt. Candice Cobarrubias. “The driver believed his license was valid, which it had been expired for a couple of years. His car was impounded and he was cited. His family came to get him.”

Lot 4 south is at Bicknell Ave, south of Bay and north of Hollister. Cobarrubias said there were no injuries as a result of the incident.
