On September 24 at approximately 11:15 a.m., an officer was driving in the 1600 block of Ocean Avenue when he noticed a subject, later identified as Paul Loveridge, 47, of Santa Monica, on his bicycle quickly drop the bike and charge a victim sitting on a public bench. The officer saw Loveridge angrily raise his fists and begin to hit the victim.

In an attempt to get Loveridge to stop attacking the victim, the officer pulled his car over to the curb and honked his air horn. Loveridge ignored all commands the officer made, and the officer warned him twice that he would be subjected to a Taser deployment if he did not stop. Loveridge was tased and placed under arrest. Loveridge is currently on parole for burglary; a parole violation hold was placed. He was denied bail.
