Police are investigating a fatal shooting near the downtown freeway onramp that may have been the result of a road rage incident.
A man was allegedly shot to death near 4th and Olympic on Saturday night and police are currently working to arrest a suspect. The intersection was closed at about 11:15 p.m. and social media reported a shooting at about the same time. The intersection was reopened at about 4:30 a.m.
SMPD have not released details of the crime but witnesses reported multiple police vehicles at the intersection late last night and said one man was killed after two cars were involved in some kind of incident.
The intersection is about a block from City Hall and adjacent to the Santa Monica Police Department headquarters. It leads to the freeway onramp and is often crowded as vehicles leave Santa Monica.
