City officials estimate the 2012 Los Angeles Marathon cost local taxpayers roughly $323,000, money which is expected to be covered by the event organizers.

Assistant City Manager Elaine Polachek said the L.A. Marathon pays for all costs directly associated with the race. Last year, the marathon cost was $303,513.

“We charge staff time to work orders and then present the L.A. Marathon with an invoice,” she said. “The reason the estimate was higher this year is predominantly attributed to labor cost increases.”

City Hall can expect to receive payment in two or three months, Polachek said.
