Published:

The Marina del Rey Tourism Board will partner with Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell's office Saturday to host its second annual Career Day, introducing students to careers in the tourism and hospitality industry.

The event, scheduled for Aug. 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., will give students from local Boys & Girls Clubs, The Children's Institute and partner organizations hands-on exposure to career opportunities through guided tours of Marina del Rey facilities.

Students will visit the Marina del Rey Sheriff's Station, City Cruises, FantaSea Yachts, Jamaica Bay Inn and The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey. The immersive experience aims to spark curiosity and build confidence among young people, particularly high school students, by showing them real-world career pathways.

The day will conclude with a recognition ceremony featuring certificates presented by Mitchell's office and a raffle giveaway to celebrate student participation.

Janet Zaldua, CEO of the Marina del Rey Tourism Board, will be available for interviews from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Marina del Rey Sheriff's Station, 13851 Fiji Way.

The certificate presentation to students by a representative from Mitchell's office will take place from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. at Jamaica Bay Inn's Beachside Restaurant, 14160 Palawan Way.

Photo opportunities include students arriving at 8:30 a.m. and being greeted by tourism board members and sheriff's deputies, students boarding boats at 9:15 a.m. at Fisherman's Wharf, and the certificate presentation at 1:30 p.m.

The Marina del Rey Tourism Board serves as the official destination marketing organization for Marina del Rey, formed through the joint efforts of seven Marina del Rey hotels located within the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County.

The program is designed to expose approximately 40 students to fulfilling, long-term career possibilities in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
