# May Faire in bloom at Waldorf

Celebrate the arrival of spring this weekend with a day of games, crafts, music and dancing.

The Westside Waldorf School’s is holding its annual May Faire on Saturday, April 30\. Children will dance around a Maypole, decorated with ribbons and flowers. In addition to Scandinavian folk dancers, a gospel choir and musical performances by local artists, there will be food, face-painting, mehndi-tatooing, craft supplies, craft-making opportunities and handmade toys and goods for all ages. There also will be raffle prizes, an all-day silent auction and a live auction of 20th century fine art works. Proceeds all go to support nonprofit education.

The Waldorf philosophy dates back 80 years and is one of today’s fastest-growing educational movements, school officials said. Its approach of integrating all of the child’s faculties into education harmonizes with contemporary research in early childhood development and education, officials said.

The May Faire is an opportunity to explore the Westside Waldorf School’s centrally located campus near the beach. The nonprofit independent school is now in its 17th year. The school offers preschool, kindergarten and elementary classes through the seventh grade. The school also conducts after-school and summer enrichment programs.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Westside Waldorf School campus, at 1229 Fourth St. Parking is available in Fourth Street public garages.
