The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) announced today that the two Expo Line stations which have been closed for construction in downtown Los Angeles as part of the northern segment of the New Blue Improvements Project, will reopen to the public on Saturday, August 24.

The Expo Line stations are Pico and 7th St/Metro Center. Trains will resume service at the beginning of regular service on Saturday, August 24\. The 856-bus shuttle that has been servicing these stations will discontinue service.

“The reopening of the two Expo Line stations in downtown Los Angeles is a step forward as we strive to complete the New Blue Improvements Project,” said Metro Board Chair James T. Butts. “I want to thank the Expo Line riders for their patience during this construction process.”

The Metro Blue Line is undergoing a $350-million modernization that began in January 2019 to improve reliability, enhance safety and improve the customer experience.

The Expo Line and Blue Line share tracks in downtown Los Angeles and part of the work was to replace tracks at the junction of the two rail lines at Washington Boulevard and Flower Street.

“Metro’s State of Good Repair program is important to keep our trains, buses, stations and facilities in top-notch condition, and this New Blue project is a perfect example of this endeavor,” said Metro CEO Phillip A. Washington.

The Blue Line’s northern segment continues to be out of service with work continuing and expected to be completed in fall 2019.

The southern section of the New Blue Improvements Project was completed on June 1 and marked the halfway point of the project.
