An early May heat wave was building Tuesday across Southern California, the National Weather Service said.
High pressure centered over northern Baja California will push temperatures well above normal, peaking on Wednesday and Thursday, the San Diego weather office said.
Temperatures in the Coachella Valley could near 110 degrees (43.3 Celsius), forecasters said.
Forecasters also warned of high winds on the south Santa Barbara County coast and along the Interstate 5 corridor in the mountains between Los Angeles and the San Joaquin Valley.
For Sunday and early next week, a low-pressure system over the northeast Pacific Ocean will increase onshore flow. Forecasters said cooling will spread inland and there will be greater night-and-morning coastal low clouds and fog.
