*Keeping it green*

Five new trash collection trucks could soon be on the road if the council approves a $1.2 million bill to purchase the CNG vehicles.

The compressed natural gas vehicles will be used for commercial and resident collection. The council could also authorize a $262,000 order of two new hydraulic telescopic articulating aerial devices, which are vehicles used to repair and maintain street lights.

A firm that provides financial management for Sustainable Works, a nonprofit organization that encourages resident and business participation in green initiatives, is due to receive a $257,000 contract from City Hall. Under the new contract, Community Partners will provide fiscal management for Sustainable Works, which was first contracted by City Hall under the name “Green Team Project” in the 1990s to develop the Residential Greening Program.

Sustainable Works has worked with more than 115 businesses and 3,600 community members in greening programs.

As City Hall continues with water and sewer main construction projects, it is seeking a $20,000 contract extension with Traffic Management Inc. to continue mapping out vehicular and pedestrian detours.

A firm that is upgrading the operating system for the wastewater pumping station and Santa Monica Urban Runoff Recycling Facility is asking for more money to purchase hardware and software to complete installation. Beavens Systems Inc., which has been working with City Hall since February, is requesting an additional $65,000 to complete the project.

The upgrade will replace an outdated control system with an automated one that identifies operating needs and manages the equipment maintenance of both facilities.

Along with the contract extension for Beavens Systems, the council will also be asked to spend $11,000 for a new cash management software system, which will integrate other payment recording systems used by City Hall, including for business tax receipts.
