A new improved version of designer fragrance, “Essence of Santa Monica” will hit major department stores and fashion boutiques across the country today.

Originally launched on April 1, 2004, the perfume was a blend of back alley urine, sea salt, cigarette smoke with a hint of old trash dumpster, homeless body odor, human feces and bad breath. But creators realized their creation had been missing something vital: Elevator citrus smell.

“It’s absolutely essential that we get Santa Monica’s essence down to a science,” said Stephen Stylish, a 30-year resident and entrepreneur. “And what’s been missing is the familiar smell of being in an elevator in any of the city’s parking structures and wondering if it is urine or oranges that you smell.

“But with our new blend, you’ll realize it’s both,” he continued while admiring himself in his new skinny jeans, the latest rave among maladjusted Angelenos. “But unlike many in the city, we want to embrace the smells of Santa Monica, not mask it.”

The new fragrance will be called the “Epitome of Santa Monica,” and will retail for $140 a bottle.

Stylish has been working with his partner Jean Franco le Pierre, who has captured the scents of cities like Santa Fe, Paris and Aspen.

Even so, the rent on a studio apartment in Santa Monica is $1,500, even south of the 10\. Street parking is not included.
