The Main Street Merchants Association needs volunteers to participate in its third annual community clean-up event, which will benefit the Ocean Park neighborhood. The City of Santa Monica will provide all support services for the clean-up and “Tree People” will provide instruction to volunteers as they care for the Cassia trees along Ocean Park Boulevard.

The main goal is pollution prevention, but there also are many advantages to cleaning up the neighborhood, including improved business and residential relationships to the community, organizers say.

Last year, more than 60 volunteers were rewarded for their hard work with gift bags containing goodies from vendors along Main Street and a raffle for larger prizes. The merchants plan to build on the success of the previous clean-up efforts with an even larger selection of prizes for the Ocean Park participants.

The clean-up will take place on Saturday, Oct. 18, and volunteers are to meet at the Ocean Park Library located at 2601 Main St. at 8:30 a.m. to register. For more information on volunteering, e-mail
