MAIN STREET — Organizers of the 2012 Fourth of July Parade put out a call for volunteers and sponsors Friday.

Current sponsors include RAND Corp., Pacific Park and the Santa Monica Daily Press.

The event starts at 9:30 a.m. on July 4 in front of the Civic Center and will continue down Main Street to the Venice border. This year’s theme is science and technology.

The parade is sponsored by the Ocean Park Association and The Buy Local Santa Monica Committee. The connection is intended to link local businesses with residents to celebrate the community, said Jennifer Taylor, chair of Buy Local and acting economic development manager for City Hall.

Applications to participate in the parade will be available on June 1 at www.opa-sm.org/parade. For information on volunteering opportunities, e-mail volunteer@opa-sm.org. For sponsorship, contact sponsor@opa-sm.org.
