As the school year came to a close, Santa Monica High School Principal Dr. Hugo Pedroza served his final days as a Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District employee.

Pedroza recently accepted a position as assistant superintendent with the Lompoc Unified School District.

The reasons for his departure are currently unknown.

“I found him always willing to pitch in and make sure things went well,” said Dr. Sally Chou, chief academic officer for SMMUSD. “I wish him all the best as he moves into a central office of administration. That will be a new challenge.”

Chou said she felt Pedroza received excellent training during his time at Samohi. Pedroza served as principal for four and a half years.

The SMMUSD wished Pedroza luck in his new position in a Twitter post Wednesday.
