On April 4 at 4:50 a.m., Santa Monica police officers received a call of a burglary in progress in the 1000 block of 2nd Street.

Upon arrival, the officers saw the suspect attempting to force his way into one of the apartments.

The officers detained the suspect, who said he was released early from prison and there to visit a girl.

Further investigation revealed nobody in the apartment complex knew who the suspect was.

The suspect was arrested for attempted burglary and a probation violation. Marc Shakar, 42, of Santa Monica, was denied bail.
