A 20-year-old Rancho Cucamonga man is facing attempted murder charges in connection to an early morning shooting on the Santa Monica Pier, according to the Santa Monica Police Department. Officers said Ivan Galiano was visiting the Pier when he shot a woman in the leg shortly after 6:00 a.m. Aug. 23.

About twelve hours after the shooting, Upland police officers arrested Galiano on unrelated charges. Police said he had ammunition in his possession at the time of the arrest.

Santa Monica police said evidence collected on the Pier connected Galiano to the shooting here. The victim and the alleged gunman did not know each other, but got into a fight in the early morning hours.

β€œIt was just an incident that quickly went sideways,” said Sergeant Rudy Flores. β€œA little confrontation and in a matter of seconds it went bad.”

Police initially told the Daily Press the victim was uncooperative, but Sgt. Flores said she later gave more information to officers while recovering in the hospital. The victim was released the same day and is expected to recover.

Santa Monica detectives have traveled to San Bernadino to continue their investigation. In addition to attempted murder, Galiano is charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Felon in Possession of a Handgun.
