The Santa Monica Police Department has released a video of a 2018 shooting to hopefully prompt help from the public in solving the case.

According to SMPD, officers received a call of shots fired at Eddie’s Liquor (2045 20th St) on Nov. 16, 2018 at about 7:22 p.m. While no-one was at the scene by the time officers arrived, a victim was located in a nearby hospital.

“A preliminary investigation determined occupants in a car, a male driver and female passenger, were involved in a verbal altercation with a suspect on a bicycle,” said a release from SMPD. “The altercation escalated and the suspect produced a handgun from a saddlebag attached to the bicycle. The suspect fired several rounds upwards in the air and at the victim’s vehicle.”

One bullet went through the car’s rear window, passed through the seats and while the round didn’t penetrate into the victim, it did leave substantial bruising.

The black and white video shows the bike rider approaching the driver’s side door and engaging in conversation. Both the driver and the passenger then exit the vehicle and the woman kicks the bike to the ground. The bike rider then picks up the bike, draws the gun and fires.

SMPD said the suspect is described as a male White or Hispanic in his 40’s, long hair in a ponytail, unshaven and wearing a long sleeve flannel shirt at the time of the incident. The suspect was riding a dark bicycle with rear saddlebags. A small white dog was inside one of the saddlebag pouches. A red food delivery style bag was also attached to the rear of the bicycle.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Detective Haro at (310) 458-8432; or the Santa

Monica Police Department at (310) 458-8491.
