The City of Malibu Arts Commission will host a free opening reception Sunday for renowned pop artist Jim "Taz" Evans at Malibu City Hall, celebrating the launch of a new public art exhibition.

The reception begins at noon Sept. 14 at City Hall, 23825 Stuart Ranch Road. The event features complimentary refreshments, live music by Farmer Dave and the Wizards of the West, and a question-and-answer session with Evans. No RSVP is required for the free event.

"Malibu has always been a hub for art, music, and creative expression," Mayor Marianne Riggins said. "This exhibition highlights that spirit and connects our community with one of the most influential artists in modern music history."

The exhibition, curated by the Malibu Arts Commission, will display at the Malibu City Gallery from Sept. 15 through Oct. 24. Evans rose to prominence in San Francisco's underground rock scene, creating iconic poster art and album designs for punk, rock and alternative music acts.

His commissioned work includes designs for Foo Fighters, U2, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Metallica, Beck, Aerosmith and Neil Young. As founder of the TAZ Collective, Evans has produced hundreds of gig posters and album covers while expanding into fine art and street art for major film studios including Sony, Warner Bros. and Orion Pictures.

Evans' work has been exhibited worldwide in galleries alongside celebrated artists including Ed Ruscha, Ed Moses and Estevan Oriol.

The Malibu City Gallery operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first floor of City Hall. Admission is free with no tickets or reservations required.
