*Members can’t find meeting*

Members of a neighborhood organization say trying to keep tabs on its activities is difficult.

Some members of the Ocean Park Community Organization say they are frustrated because they rarely know when the board meets. Routinely, the agenda for an upcoming meeting is set and posted on OPCO’s Web site just hours before the event.

That was the case last week when the OPCO board met Thursday. Some members who aren’t on the board didn’t know where and when to show up. The Web site, which is the only place where the agenda is posted, showed there was a meeting, but a time and location wasn’t given until an hour in advance.

Four community members attended the meeting on Thursday.

“Nobody knows when these meetings are and nobody comes here,” OPCO member Lance Schmidt told the board, adding that he’s frustrated that meetings continue to get canceled.

At one point, OPCO chairman Rick Laudati interrupted Schmidt, who has been a critic of OPCO in recent months, by asking him if he had anything constructive to say. Schmidt requested that OPCO members be given more notice about its meetings.

Gaile Price, a new board member who attended her first formal meeting on Thursday, said she thinks notice of board meetings should go further than OPCO’s Web site and e-mail list.

“I think it's important to take our information out of our stream,” she said.

Laudati said the issue can be discussed in the future.

At the end of the meeting Thursday, Laudati and other board members went into closed session. When asked by the Daily Press what the board would be discussing, Laudati and other board members declined comment.
