9 Things to Look For in Childcare during COVID-19
- Small, stable group sizes. The County limits group sizes to 12 kids with two educators.
- Quick drop-offs/pick-ups. Expect staggered pickups/drop offs at centers.
- Daily Health Screenings at Drop-Off.
- Heightened Cleaning Procedures.
- Mask Wearing. Mandatory for educators and kids 2 and up.
- Physical Distancing. Ask how your provider has adapted daily activities such as eating and circle time - you may be delighted by the ingenuity of their ideas. That said, due to their age, it might not always be possible to keep kids separated.
- Frequent Hand Washing. Visible signage throughout the facility, including posted at eye level for young children in the restrooms.
- Isolation plans. Ask what a provider would do if a child (or staff member) begins to feel sick.
- Knowledgeable about how to limit the spread of COVID-19 in an early care setting via guidance from LA County Department of Public Health and Community Care Licensing.
