# Rock them, Amadeus: A Mozart minifest at SMC

A musical minifest of all things Mozart will include performances paying homage to the composer’s 250th year.

The Santa Monica College Music Department is pleased to present a week-long celebration of the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, featuring vocal and chamber music, opera and orchestral music.

Concerts in the Mozart Minifest are scheduled for Nov. 14, 16, 18 and 19 in the SMC Concert Hall, 1900 Pico Blvd.

The minifest brings together the talent of SMC professors, students, alumni and guest artists, all under the direction of SMC music professor James Martin.

This is the seventh such celebration at SMC devoted to composers. In the past, concerts have been organized around the works of such composers as Bach and Beethoven. The programs include a scholarly component, with talks about the composers.

The concerts are: ■Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 11:15 a.m. — Vocal Program, including a slide presentation by SMC emeritus music professor Donald Richardson. The concert is free. ■Thursday, Nov. 16 at 11:15 a.m. — Chamber Music Program. The concert is free. ■ Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. — Full Opera:“The Marriage of Figaro,”with Martin conducting and Gail Gordon serving as vocal and stage director. Tickets are $25\. n Sunday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. — “An Evening of Concertos with the SMC Orchestra.” The concert features Martin and James E. Smith conducting, Rhoda Tuit and Joan Mills as duo-pianists, Sung Il Lee on violin, Eric Shumsky on viola, and Kirill Gliadkovsky on piano. Tickets are $10.
