SAMOHI — What a way to end a season.

Santa Monica High School’s baseball team will face Ocean League rival Culver City this week to determine the regular season crown. This isn’t new for either team, the two shared the league title last season.

Samohi set up the final week tangle with a convincing 7-1 win over Inglewood on Saturday at home to improve its league record to 8-0. Senior pitcher Brandon Hirschberger went the distance, allowing just three hits while striking out 13.

The first of the two-game set will take place on Tuesday at Culver City. The teams return to Santa Monica on Thursday to complete the regular season. Both games are scheduled for 3:15 p.m.

Volleyball teams make playoffs

Samohi’s boys’ volleyball team has clinched the No. 1 seed in the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 playoffs, it was announced on Sunday.

On Tuesday, the Ocean League champion Vikings will host the winner of a wildcard match. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.

St. Monica, winner of the Camino Real League, has earned the No. 7 seed in the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs. The Mariners will host the winner of a wildcard game on Tuesday also at 7 p.m.
