Roundup: Samohi v-ball advances; Xrds sent home

CITYWIDE — Santa Monica High School’s boys’ volleyball team advanced to the semi-finals of the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 playoffs with a four-game win over Bishop Montgomery on the road on Saturday.

CITYWIDE — Santa Monica High School’s boys’ volleyball team advanced to the semi-finals of the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 playoffs with a four-game win over Bishop Montgomery on the road on Saturday.

The Samohi Vikings will take on nearby Windward on Tuesday at home. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Samohi, the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, won the Ocean League this season. Windward came in second in the Alpha League.

On the other side of the semi-final is a matchup between Samohi’s Ocean League rival Culver City and San Gabriel, winners of the Almont League.

San Gabriel advanced after beating Santa Monica’s Crossroads in four games on Saturday on the road. Crossroads finished the season in third place in the Alpha League.

Samohi tennis stays alive

Samohi’s boys’ tennis team will take on Foothill in the quarter-finals of the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 playoffs. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Samohi.

Samohi advanced by defeating West Ranch on Friday. Samohi won the Ocean League this season.

New Roads baseball finishes unbeaten

New Roads’ baseball team defeated Rolling Hills Prep, 7-4, on Friday to complete a perfect 8-0 record in the Coastal League and the title.

New Roads completed the regular season 16-5 overall, ranked No. 2 in Division 7.

Correction

The Daily Press previously reported that playoff brackets for baseball and softball would be released on Sunday. They will actually be released Monday afternoon.
