*A center-cut, no-fat review of what was said this past week by folks the world over and right at home*

*By Daily Press Staff*

“My early friends in New York like Bob Duval and Gene Hackman and other great actors who live here like Tony Hopkins and Annette Benning were trained for the stage, so it remains a vital part of who were are. They want a first-class theater. This is who you are going to get — all the great artists.”

Dustin Hoffman, regarding the Broad Stage at Santa Monica College, which will open in September.

“We’re just so thrilled we’re going to have such nice neighbors.”

Barbara Cullom, neighbor of a modern house on the corner of Seventh Street and San Vicente Boulevard.

“For what it’s worth Michael J. Fox and I have differing opinions about just where Alex is today. I believe he does pro bono legal work for The Children’s Defense Fund. Mike thinks he’s just now getting out of prison.”

Gary David Goldberg, The founder of UBU Productions, which produced nine television series including “Family Ties” and “Brooklyn Bridge,” in a guest SMDP commentary.

“It’s no longer cute for parents to laugh and giggle about how tech savvy their kids are. It’s affecting kids as they’re growing up and they need to know they can go to their parents about something as serious as cyber bullying.”

Candice Kelsey, a Venice resident and author of “Generation MySpace,” on the recent phenomenon of cyber bullying.

“Despite graduating from college with a minor in Women’s Studies, I’ve never been too quick to wave a burning bra (especially when having a door held for me if my arms are full or being offered a free drink on Ladies Night).”

SMDP columnist Meredith C. Carroll in her weekly column Meredith Pro Tem.

“From what I’ve heard from my foodie friends who’ve actually been to Spain, tapas bars allow you to just throw things on the ground. I don’t get it.”

SMDP food columnist Maria L. Rohloff in The Marinade.

“Is this what we are about? Letting government act as they please. NO. Now that the apartment owners are gone, the voices of the free market are banished; SMRR rules the city un-opposed. Who will stand up for you when they come after you? And they will. History is clear that unchecked government grows more powerful and enjoys its power and thirsts for more.”

Robert Kronovet, who’s running for a seat on the Santa Monica Rent Board.
