The Salvation Army Santa Monica Adult Rehabilitation Center will host its 2nd Chance Benefit Concert on Sunday, Aug. 30, an afternoon of music and fellowship supporting men and women working to rebuild their lives through recovery.

The free event runs from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Salvation Army Santa Monica Corps, 1533 4th St. The Christian band "Hill To Die On" will perform. A free-will offering will be collected to support the center's mission of recovery, restoration and second chances.

The Santa Monica center runs a residential rehabilitation program that helps people struggling with alcohol and drug dependence build stability, life and work skills, spiritual strength and a foundation for reentry into the community. The 59-bed, six-month, faith-based work-therapy program helps men address social and spiritual challenges, including substance abuse.

For more than 100 years, The Salvation Army has provided spiritual, emotional and social assistance to people facing life's challenges. Its more than 80 rehabilitation centers nationwide are funded primarily by the sale of donated goods in thrift stores, online thrift auctions and monetary gifts. Each year, thousands of graduates transform their lives, reunite with families and bring hope to their communities.

Services are offered on a charitable basis, generally at no cost and without the need for insurance. Organizers said every donation and every thrift store purchase help make the programs possible.
