Santa Monica High School’s Tyler Skaggs was selected by the Los Angeles Angels with the 40th pick in the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday.

The standout pitcher was rumored to be headed to the Angels by a number of experts. Initially considered a possible first round selection, Skaggs slipped into the compensation round. He was the Angels’ third draft pick of the day.
