City Hall authorized nine boards and commissions — four of which may be eliminated in next year's budget — to continue meeting virtually during the pandemic.
The selected boards and commissions will be allowed to meet to carry out necessary duties via teleconference, officials said Tuesday.

Of the nine bodies that will continue meeting during the pandemic, only the Architectural Review Board, Landmarks Commission, Arts Commission and Building & Fire-Life Safety Commission are not required under the city charter.
As the city plans to cut $86.2 million in annual spending amid a steep drop in tax revenues from industries devastated by the coronavirus shutdown, officials have proposed suspending boards and commissions not included in the city charter.
The order will allow those bodies to continue meeting throughout the pandemic, but City Council could still vote to eliminate them next fiscal year. The council will vote on the 2020-2021 budget next month.
