Santa Monica College's Fashion Program will present its annual student fashion show, LA Mode 2025, at 7 p.m. Friday, June 20, in the Core Performance Center Courtyard on the college's main campus at 1900 Pico Blvd.
The show, themed "Style, Substance & Sustainability," will feature 25 student collections showcasing casual, cocktail, club and avant-garde styles. Each collection reflects the designer's future career aspirations.
Admission costs $25, or $20 for college students with identification. A "Mocha Carpet" event begins at 4 p.m., offering sponsor giveaways and networking opportunities for alumni, current students and fashion industry guests.
The collections were developed by students from the Los Angeles area, across the United States and internationally as part of their two-year fashion studies at SMC. Fashion Show Production students organize the event under the leadership of fashion professors La Tanya Louis, who serves as show producer and collections director, Lorrie Ivas, who directs industry judges, and technology consultant Wynn Armstrong.
The event represents a collaborative effort across multiple SMC departments. Photography students will document the show and create designer lookbook photos under professors Josh Withers and Ed Mangus. Media and communication students produced designer interview videos and will cover behind-the-scenes content under department chair Redelia Shaw, professor Gail Fetzer and broadcast tech manager Thoren Jorgensen. Cosmetology students will handle hair and makeup under Brandon Ceballos.
Industry professionals including designers, stylists, costume designers and retailers will judge the collections. The panel includes Advisory Board members and SMC alumni, many of whom now offer internships. Judges will evaluate collections before the show and select winners in categories including marketability, creativity, sustainability, technical achievement and outstanding collection. Winners will be announced during the event.
The show is sponsored by Jeff Abrams, founder of contemporary clothing line Rails. Abrams also provided 20 fashion scholarships, along with donations from Tukatech, local businesses and fashion industry supporters.
The evening will feature presentation of the eighth annual Style and Substance Award to fashion designer Kevan Hall, an SMC Fashion Advisory Board member and co-founder of the Black Design Collective, a nonprofit creating scholarships and mentorships for young designers.
The SMC Fashion Program, part of the Photography and Fashion Department chaired by professor Josh Sanseri, offers associate degrees and certificate programs in Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising.
