The Santa Monica Democratic Club has endorsed Antonio Vazquez for California state treasurer in the 2026 election following candidate presentations and interviews.
"Santa Monica Democratic Club is proud to endorse CA Board of Equalization member Tony Vazquez for California State Treasurer," said Jon Katz, the club's president. "Tony Vazquez reflects the values and integrity we need for our State Treasurer and has a solid plan for reinvesting in California and lifting up underserved communities, teachers, seniors, and workers."
Vazquez, a lifelong Democrat and former Santa Monica mayor, has advocated for smart development with emphasis on affordable housing and small business development. As mayor, he oversaw completion of the Metro Expo Line's final stage, redevelopment of the California Incline and numerous business revival projects.
If elected, Vazquez would become California's first Latino state treasurer. He has pledged to increase major pension fund investments in state projects, noting that CALPERS currently invests only 2 percent of its $500 billion fund in California development projects.
The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, 2026, with the general election Nov. 3, 2026. Vazquez encourages all eligible voters to participate in setting California's future direction.
The Santa Monica Democratic Club is among the state's largest with more than 500 members.
