# Santa Monica Filmmaker Attila Korosi's "Live and Die in East L.A." Arrives on DVD Sept. 8

"Live and Die in East L.A.," written and directed by longtime Santa Monica resident Attila Korosi, will be released on DVD Sept. 8, becoming available through Barnes & Noble and Walmart.

The release marks a new chapter for the independent Los Angeles film, which has earned recognition for its unconventional storytelling and its impact within communities affected by gang violence.

Rather than simply depicting the consequences of gang life, the film uses a non-linear narrative structure to explore how individual choices can send a life in dramatically different directions. That approach has helped the film connect with at-risk youth and has contributed to its use as a tool for discouraging young people from becoming involved with gangs.

The film has been recognized by both the City of Los Angeles and the County of Los Angeles for its life-saving community impact. It has also received support from Father Gregory Boyle of Homeboy Industries and GRYD (Gang Reduction and Youth Development).

"We didn't want to make a film that simply tells young people that gangs are dangerous," Korosi said. "We wanted the story itself to show how one decision can change the direction of an entire life. The narrative gives audiences the opportunity to experience those different paths rather than just being told about them."

Since its original release, the film has reached audiences beyond Southern California, with screenings extending to Europe, Latin America and East Asia. Its non-linear structure allows the story to examine alternate outcomes and the ripple effects created by the characters' choices.

The combination of crime drama and socially conscious storytelling has allowed the film to function as both entertainment and a conversation starter about gang involvement, family, identity and second chances.

The physical release also creates opportunities for libraries, schools, community organizations and individual viewers to add the film to their collections and use it to continue conversations about choices, consequences and alternatives to gang involvement.

Beginning Sept. 8, "Live and Die in East L.A." will be available on DVD through Barnes & Noble and Walmart.
