The woman arrested for the [alleged kidnapping](https://smdp.com/2024/07/12/4-year-old-abducted-from-1900-block-of-lincoln-found-at-santa-monica-motel/?ref=smdp.com) of a 4-year-old girl from a Panda Express in Santa Monica, has a detailed criminal history, including prior arrests for spousal abuse and drug-related probation violations, court records show.

Breanna Shields, 31, was arrested at the Holiday Motel & Suites where she had been staying. It remains uncertain whether her stay at the motel was facilitated through the county's motel voucher program. Her criminal record, as per Burbank court documents, includes a 2016 arrest for spousal abuse and multiple court appearances for probation violations related to her drug use.

In addition to her arrest for spousal abuse, Shields was arrested for vandalism. Court records show [she violated](https://www.westsidecurrent.com/news/santa-monica-kidnapping-suspect-had-troubled-legal-past-including-spousal-abuse-and-drug-use/article%5F1527a0b4-41f0-11ef-b638-9fd030ef93fc.html?ref=smdp.com) the terms of her parole in this case multiple times as well.

The kidnapping incident occurred last Friday, July 12, prompting a swift response from the Santa Monica Police Department after the child’s grandmother reported the abduction. Surveillance footage quickly led police to the motel where Shields was found with the child, who was unharmed and has since been reunited with her family.

Mayor Phil Brock praised the police for their prompt action in rescuing the child and emphasized the need for vigilant community and law enforcement measures to protect vulnerable individuals. "This troubling case highlights the ongoing challenges we face in monitoring and managing individuals with complex criminal backgrounds," said Brock.

Shields is being held on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, July 16.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information about this case to contact the Santa Monica Police Department.
