A slew of local bands will play at Rusty’s Surf Ranch on the Santa Monica Pier on Saturday in the first annual “Homie Palooza” that will raise money for two youth groups and is designed to re-energize skateboarding in the community.

Organized by local musician Mark Dominique, Homie Palooza will feature Sancho’s Revenge, Front Side Gring, N9, Left Hand Side and Horny Toad. The music ranges from punk rock to reggae to alternative. The band members all grew up in Santa Monica and Venice, and come from skateboarding and surfing cultures.

They want to keep those cultures alive with local youth so all the proceeds of the event will go toward the Pico Youth and Family Center and the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Monica. Half will go to the youth and family center and the other half will pay to re-sheet the skate park at the boys and girls club.

“I’d been hearing the ads for Lallapalooza,” said Dominique, who is the singer in Sancho’s Revenge and a drummer for Horny Toads. “I wanted to do something positive for the kids because they get overlooked and it’s too bad because they are our future.”

Dominique hopes to educate youth on the skateboarding community in the area and about the anticipated new skateboard park being built by the city at Memorial Park. Several sponsors including Horizons West Surf Shop and a host of skateboard companies, will donate plenty of skateboarding schwag to be given away in raffles all night long.

The price is $10 for the all ages show and includes raffle tickets. Show starts at 8 p.m.
