The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District has appointed Crystal Gonzalez as its new transportation supervisor, effective Dec. 1.
Gonzalez brings more than 10 years of experience in school transportation services, dispatch operations, staff training and customer support to the position.
She most recently worked at the Antelope Valley Schools Transportation Agency, where she started as a school bus driver in 2009 before advancing to dispatcher in 2015. In that role, she prepared weekly operational reports, managed route and fuel data, supported performance analysis and conducted onboarding for new hires. She also served as a primary communication link between drivers, staff and families.
Gonzalez is bilingual in English and Spanish and holds a Commercial Class A driver's license with passenger, school bus and doubles and triples endorsements. She also maintains CPR and first aid certifications.
Her expertise includes GPS and route planning systems, database and record management, and digital workflow tools. She previously represented colleagues on the California School Employees Association Negotiations Team, participating in labor relations and contract discussions.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to join SMMUSD and be part of a team that makes such a meaningful impact," Gonzalez said. "I bring several years of dispatch experience, strong organization skills and a commitment to clear communication."
Superintendent Dr. Antonio Shelton praised Gonzalez's qualifications and leadership abilities.
"She has a strong record supporting student safety, staff coordination and effective communication," Shelton said. "Her qualifications and leadership will help strengthen our transportation services for students across Santa Monica and Malibu."
