Santa Monica man who punched pedestrian was ‘unprovoked’

On July 21 at approximately 7:11 p.m., Santa Monica police officers responded to the 1100 block of Wilshire Boulevard regarding a battery that had just occurred.

Officers spoke with the victim. The victim stated that at about 7 p.m., she was standing on the sidewalk in the 1400 block of Wilshire Boulevard when, for unknown reasons and unprovoked, the suspect punched the victim in the lower back.

The victim turned towards the suspect. The suspect proceeded to punch the victim in the face. The suspect yelled expletives towards the victim and walked away.

Officers located the suspect in the 1200 block of Alley 13. Blaine Kyle Hope, 42, of Santa Monica, was arrested for battery. Bail was set at $20,000.
