*By Patty Laurie Sunset Park*

I am writing out of concern for the air we breathe in the Santa Monica Airport Sunset Park area.

Many years ago, before the large commercial corporate jets; yes, our air was OK to breathe.

We are unable to go into our own backyard due to raw jet fuel filling the air from the jet take-offs and landings.

The article (“What smog? SM honored for clear air initiatives,” Oct. 24) may be talking about the air you breathe down nearer to the ocean with the ocean breezes.

The air quality of this neighborhood is totally unacceptable at so many hours during the day.

You are invited to come to my house and sit in the backyard to take a deep breath and enjoy this air at this end of the runway.

Many people say, “Why not move?” Where are we able to go in Santa Monica with homes being over millions of dollars!

These homes were built here before the jets. The increase of fumes is totally toxic and we are unable to enjoy daily walks and gardening.

We have to close all windows. The black soot from the exhaust of jets is everywhere.

Help us on this end to make our air safe to breathe. The safety of our air has not improved and it is misleading to read this article.
