The Santa Monica Pier will mark 50 years since the rise of Dogtown and the Z-Boys with a special edition of Locals’ Night from 3:30 to 10 p.m. Oct. 15.

Pacific Park is presenting the free, all-ages event. It will feature a drive-in screening of “Dogtown and Z-Boys,” Stacy Peralta’s documentary about the pioneering Zephyr skateboard team, and a live vinyl DJ set by original Z-Boy Tony Alva.

The Z-Boys emerged from the Westside in the mid-1970s and brought a radical, surf-inspired style to skateboarding that helped redefine the sport.

“Fifty years later, the influence of Dogtown and the Z-Boys can still be seen in skateboarding and Southern California culture around the world,” said Jim Harris, the pier’s executive director and historian.

Drive-in ticket holders may drive onto the pier parking deck between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. to claim viewing spots. Guests with general chair seating tickets should bring blankets or chairs.

From 3:30 to 7:30 p.m., skaters can use a ramp on the parking deck with a free skate ticket and signed waiver. Books & Cookies Musical Storytime takes place at 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. in the Merry Go-Round Building. A classic car meet with DJ Cee Rock runs from 4 to 8 p.m.

Cheer performances from St. Monica and Samohi take place on the main stage at 5 p.m. Behind Marisol, Courtney Parisi leads salsa lessons at 6 p.m., followed by live music from Chino Espinoza Y Los Duenos Del Son at 7 p.m.

Alva’s DJ set begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the screening at 7:30 p.m. Cycotic Youth closes the night with live music at 9 p.m.

The event also spotlights the 100th anniversary of Route 66, which ends at the pier. More information is available at[ ](http://www.santamonica.com/route66?ref=smdp.com)[www.santamonica.com/route66](http://www.santamonica.com/route66?ref=smdp.com).

Locals’ Night is the pier’s recurring community celebration. It is made possible by the nonprofit Santa Monica Pier Corp., which the city does not fully fund, and is presented by Pacific Park and Playland Arcade.

Admission is free, but guests need advance reservations for drive-in, general chair seating and skate tickets at dogtowndrivein.eventbrite.com. Guests are encouraged to arrive by rideshare, Metro, Big Blue Bus or bike.
