PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY The Santa Monica Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying those responsible for what officers believe was an assault that occurred on Sunday.

Officers have no information on a suspect or suspects and want to see if anyone may have witnessed the alleged assault or knows the victim and may have information about possible enemies, said SMPD Sgt. Renaldi Thruston.

“Right now we really don’t have much,” Thruston said. “That’s why we put the victim’s name out there, to see if anybody knows him and why someone may have wanted to attack him.”

Officers responded to the 1900 block of 20th Street on Sunday, May 11 around 11:30 p.m. after receiving a report about a man lying unconscious on the sidewalk. When officers arrived, they saw that the man had severe injuries to his face. Paramedics from the Santa Monica Fire Department were summoned and transported the victim to a local hospital.

Once treated, officers were able to determine that he was the victim of an assault. The victim was identified as Santa Monica resident Preston Brumfield.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the SMPD at (310) 458-8451 or (310) 458- 8427\. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call the WeTip hotline at (800) 78-Crime.
