The Santa Monica Public Library will present a panel discussion on 'The American Isherwood' featuring co-editors James J. Berg and Chris Freeman on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m. in the Main Library's MLK, Jr. Auditorium, 601 Santa Monica Blvd.

Christopher Isherwood was a well-known English novelist when he settled in Santa Monica in the early 1940s. With his partner, the painter Don Bachardy, he lived in Santa Monica until his death in 1986\. Isherwood's American life and work is examined in 'The American Isherwood' (University of Minnesota Press, 2015), edited by James J. Berg and Chris Freeman. James and Chris welcome Don Bachardy, filmmakers Tina Mascara and Guido Santi (Chris & Don: A Love Story), and writer Carola M. Kaplan for a reading and discussion on Isherwood's life in southern California and his impact on California culture. A book sale and signing follows the presentation.

This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and on a first-arrival basis. The Santa Monica Public Library is wheelchair accessible.
