Santa Monica robbery suspect sentenced

A Los Angeles man who earlier this monthwaived his right to a trial and pleaded no contestto a 2014 attempted robbery and assault case in Santa Monica will serve 13 years in state prison.

On July 30, 2014, Robert Lee Taylor, 45, approached the parking booth attendant located at2nd Street and Santa Monica Boulevard. He pointed a Taser at the employee and demanded money. A physical struggle ensued and Taylor tasered the attendant multiple times in the neck and upper shoulder. Taylor fled on foot before police arrived.

DNA evidence was found on a bag left at the scene linking Taylor to the crime. DNA evidence was also recovered from the victim's shirt, left by Taylor during the struggle. The victim suffered moderate injuries from the incident.

On  Oct.23, Santa Monica police detectives tracked and arrested Taylor.
