Come spiritually unite with fellow Santa Monicans. Santa Monica will hold its 15th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer at 7 a.m. Thursday, May 5, on the front lawn of Santa Monica City Hall, 1685 Main St. This year’s theme is “God Shed His Grace on Thee,” taken from “America the Beautiful.”

Area pastors and community leaders will offer prayers for the president and other governmental leaders, the armed services, peace officers, legislators, judges, the community and the nation. Topics such as personal renewal and moral awakening, youth, family, business, education, the sick, the imprisoned and persecuted, churches, missionaries and ministry organizations also will be addressed.

Among those slated to take part are Pastors Clarence Crites, Santa Monica Church of the Nazarene; Herman Kemp, Calvary Baptist Church; Keith Magee, Trinity Baptist Church; Jeff McCulty, Good Shepherd Baptist Church; Bill Miles, First Christian Church; Rob Scribner, Lighthouse Church; and George Neos, Yale Street Lighthouse Church. Also leading prayers will be Dorothy Larson of Community Bible Study, Santa Monica Fire Department Captain Mike Lavoie and Santa Monica Police Officer Dennis Lynch.

The Santa Monica National Day of Prayer Youth Choir will lead patriotic and worship songs. The Ronald Reagan Division of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps will present the colors.

An optional light breakfast (suggested donation $5) will begin at 6:30 a.m. on the City Hall lawn.
