Santa Monica resident Robert Wu’s proficiency for trivia, strategy and current events will be tested against America’s favorite TV crime fighters when he steps in as a contestant on Hollywood Squares, beginning on Feb. 24\. Wu will interact with Brad Garrett (Officer Robert Barone), one of the many stars who are occupying the Center Square during the current season. The Santa Monica resident will have to jump through intellectual hoops while facing the age-old “agree or disagree” quandary, in order to win prizes, including cars, trips and cash giveaways. The nationally syndicated Hollywood Squares can be seen locally each Monday through Friday at 7:30 p.m. on Los Angeles’ KCAL-TV (Channel 9).

Wu, a police officer for the Los Angeles Police Department, keeps himself busy by practicing Jiu- Jitsu and collecting comic books. To secure his spot on the popular show, he did what hundreds of others have done to get their big “TV break” — he called the Hollywood Squares hotline and auditioned. Other Santa Monica-area contestant hopefuls also can call the show’s hot-line in Los Angeles at (323) 850-0707 for an interview.

When contestants come to Hollywood’s CBS Television City to play, they can expect to tape up to five episodes each production day before the show’s live studio audience.

“I had such a great time,” said Wu. In addition to Center Square Brad Garrett, Wu shared the stage with a wide range of television crime fighters, including Chips’ Erik Estrada, Kate Jackson (Charlie’s Angels), Mike Connors (Mannix), Barney Miller’s Hal Linden, Sherri Shepherd (Everybody Loves Raymond), McCloud’s Dennis Weaver, Robert Culp (I Spy) and Adam 12’s Martin Milner and Kent McCord. Emmy Award-winning Tom Bergeron is host of the most engaging game show on television.
