On April 9 at around 8:10 a.m., officers were on patrol when they saw a subject in possession of a shopping cart with recyclables (misappropriation of property) in the area of Chelsea Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard. They detained the person and asked for his name and birthday.

The subject said his name was Mauricio Gonzalez and gave an inaccurate birth date. The officers couldn't positively identify the subject with the information provided, so they arrested him for unlawful possession of a shopping cart.

Once at the jail, the subject's fingerprints revealed his true identity was Edgar Gonzalez with a different birth date. He had a felony warrant from the Los Angeles Police Department and a separate charge of providing false information to the police was added.

Edgar Gonzalez, 40, of Santa Monica, had bail set at $35,000.
