Sen. Ben Allen joined his community in reflection on the one-year anniversary of the Palisades Fire, honoring those who died and committing continued support for recovery efforts.
"This past year has been incredibly challenging, but I continue to be inspired by our Pacific Palisades and Malibu residents, non-profits, and businesses," Allen said. "Many have lost their homes and livelihoods, yet continue to support each other – sharing hope, vision, and determination to rebuild their communities."
Allen said he is grateful for those within and outside Pacific Palisades and Malibu who generously stepped up to help their neighbors through volunteerism, donations, offering shelter, and more.
"As I join my neighbors and friends in Pacific Palisades and Malibu, I remember and honor the lives lost in both the Palisades and Eaton fires, and commit my continued focus and support as the recovery process moves forward," Allen said. "There were many failures of our system still unresolved and so many things to improve and try to fix."
Allen said much of the work this year will be focused on lessons learned from the tragedy and ensuring survivors have the necessary tools to return to their communities.
