MAIN STREET When I nudged open the black door into the dimly lit Barcopa on Main Street last Wednesday night, I had a mission: Strike up a few conversations, down a few drinks and check out the prospects of the Santa Monica dating scene.

While free-form mingling is more my style, I couldn’t resist a coworker’s offer to peek into the world of speed dating.
